In 2011 Mt. Zion will participate in The Radical Experiment, a one-year commitment. Since 2008 we have continued to build upon yearly themes such as making disciples of all people, growing to spiritual maturity and last year's theme to impact the world. The goal of the Radical Experiment is for individuals and families to seek God and spend time in the Word and in prayer for the church, the lost and the poor around the world for God's glory. The Radical Experiment is inspired by the book Radical by David Platt, pastor of The Church at Brook Hills.

There are five parts to the experiment:

Pray for the entire world

Pray for specific needs among the nations. We will be using Operation World as our prayer guide to pray for every nation.

The last prayer in the Bible is “Come, Lord Jesus” (Revelation 22:20). Peter tells us that we should be “waiting for and hastening the coming of the day of God” (2 Peter 3:12 esv). How better can we do it than by praying for the fulfilment of Genesis 12:3, Revelation 7:9-10 and Matthew 24:14? Pray for:

Challenges for Prayer

The speediest possible evangelization of the world, of every unreached people group, area, city and nation.

The Great Commission to be restored to its rightful centrality in the ministry of the Church worldwide.

Your part in achieving this. What is God’s will for your life? In the coming year, are you willing to do whatever He commands regarding the needs of the world? Is it possible God is calling you to a specific ministry in praying, supporting or going to the ends of the earth for your Master?

Your local church’s part. Pray that your fellowship may grow in missionary zeal and commitment in the coming year.

Read through the entire Word

Last year we participated participated in a reading plan to get through the entirety of Scripture in one year.   We used the website YouVersion to keep up with our reading plan.  And we encourage you to pickup another reading plan this year as you continue to grow in the word.

Sacrifice money for a specific purpose

We should put a cap on our spending so that we can give more. Give to the church for ministry, give more to love offering, give toward mission trips, etc.

Spend time in another context

Whether it's overseas for a short term missions trip or the soup kitchen downtown, we must go and be with people who aren't like us. Mt. Zion is planning two missions trips during 2011: Ecuador and Haiti.

Ecuador

Mt. Zion will be partnering with Cary Church of God as they prepare for an annual missions trip to Ecuador in mid-July.  Please read the following information regarding the upcoming trip.

Haiti

Northwest Haiti Christian Mission will be coordinating the trip to Haiti.  The following information provides details on the trip including prices for anyone interested in attending.

Commit our lives to multiplying communities

Be a part of a local church that is growing, making disciples and sending people out. Serve faithfully and pray fervently for it. And if you're not in a ministry, get into one.

Project: Know Thy Neighbor

Do you know your neighbors?  Maybe there is someone you see on occasion that you might not know on a name basis, or some who lives near you whom you have never talked to.  We have launched a new website to challenge you in your spiritual growth.  For more information visit  Project: Know Thy Neighbor.
